Jorge Lorenzo: “Most Important Race of My Life”
Man of Steel?
In an interview after an incredible 5th place at Assen (following a high speed crash resulting in a collarbone break and immediate surgery) Jorge Lorenzo stated, “I think I demonstrate something on Saturday: limits exist but they are always a bit more far than we think.”
A truer and more inspiring statement is rarely uttered in modern day racing, or perhaps any discipline. Lorenzo set out to race on Saturday unsure of the result and showed the world what you can do when you put your mind (and body) to something, finishing 5th in the world’s premier motorcycle series. And the other guys on the track were no slouches, these are mostly national and international champions filling the grid. To finish 5th was an awe-inspiring performance by Lorenzo. #99 has set the bar higher than anyone expected when facing odds stacked against you, in MotoGP and beyond. It leaves you to wonder, just what will he not do in order to defend his 2012 World Championship Title? I think the Honda Repsol/HRC camp may be a little bit worried at this point in the season.
